Preparing a Document for Uploading into FormLizard

On the right is an image of a standard lease agreement that has been created in a word processor. It would be time consuming to have to go through this document and find all of the blanks that need filling every time a lease agreement needed completing, not to mention the chance of error from missing blanks.

Preparing a document for FormLizard is a one time process. Anywhere information needs to go, simply add a field tag. A field tag is a name, created by you, surrounded by double brackets. For example, where the tennant's first name would go, we have inserted [[Tenant1stName]].

Be sure to save the file in RTF format before uploading.

Creating Interview Questions

Once you have uploaded your form into FormLizard you will need to define the questions that go along with each field tag. At left is an example of the information that goes into creating an interview question.

  • Name - This is what the field is called. This is for your reference only, the end user won't see the field name.
  • Label - This will appear above the answer section. See below for an example.
  • Question - To make the interview easier to complete ask the user a question to answer. See below for an example.
  • Help - If you think users might need more information on a question, add some help in this box. When you do this, a question mark will appear next to the question. When a user clicks it, it will show the help you typed in. See below for an example.
  • Type - Use this drop down list to select what type of field you want. For more information on field types click here.
  • Required Field - Check this box if you want to make the field require an answer to complete the interview.
  • Account Field - When this is checked, users can answer the questions in their user profile. The next time that field is used in a form, FormLizard will automatically fill in the answers. Account fields are good for information that doesn't change, like names and phone numbers.

Building an Interview

Now that you have created the interview questions that will be used to fill out your document, you will need to organize them into an interview.

First you will select which documents will be completed by this interview. FormLizard will then show you a list of all of the questions that are required for those documents. Then it is simply a matter of creating pages and dragging the questions on to them.

In the example at right you can see three pages that have been created: Tenant Info, Rent, and Lease Term. You can also see, in the right window, three questions that have not been assigned to a page yet.

Export Completed Documents

Once you complete an interview session you will be able to export a completed document.

FormLizard support many formats including RTF, PDF, and CSV. You also have the option of sending it directly to a GoogleDocs or Box.net account.
